- Licensed contractor present on-site
- Generator manufacturer cut sheet
- Transfer switch UL listing documentation
- Gas pressure test documentation (signed/dated)
- All work areas unlocked and accessible
- Generator NOT energized (rough-in only)
- Gas line sizing calculation
- Any variance approvals (if applicable)
Electrical Inspector Checks
- Transfer switch: UL Listed label visible
- Conductor size matches generator output amps
- Anti-islanding: utility + gen cannot run simultaneously
- Generator frame bonded to grounding electrode system
- All disconnects and breakers correctly labeled
- Outdoor conduit is weatherproof-rated
- Conduit fill within NEC limits
- Overcurrent protection sized correctly
- Neutral handling: separately derived system noted
Mechanical Inspector Checks
- Gas NOT live during rough-in — air pressure test only
- Manual shutoff valve: present and labeled at generator
- Drip leg / sediment trap installed before gas inlet
- All fittings leak-free (soap test or detector)
- CSST bonded (if CSST pipe used)
- Gas line sizing matches calculation on plans
- Burial depth meets code (rough-in only)
- Flexible connector listed for generator use
- LP tank setbacks correct (if propane)
Building Inspector Checks
- Generator model matches permit application
- Setback from windows/doors ≥ 5 feet
- Setback from property line meets local code
- Pad dimensions meet manufacturer minimum
- Pad is level (within ¼ inch)
- Generator not in front yard
Top 10 Fail Points
- Work covered before rough-in inspection
- Undersized conductors (wire gauge)
- Missing drip leg on gas line
- Interlock kit on wrong panel model
- Missing or incorrect labeling
- CSST not bonded
- Setback violation (pad in wrong location)
- Gas line fails pressure test
- Different model installed than on permit
- Missing manual gas shutoff valve
